Emergency Lighting Installation at Public Swimming Pool

Emergency Lighting Installation

Out Of Hours Emergency Lighting Installation

McDevitt Electrical were contracted by Alert Fire & Security Ltd to complete an emergency lighting installation at nearby council owned Craven Leisure Swimming Pool, Yorkshire.

The existing legacy emergency lighting was several years old and had failed, deeming it no longer fit for purpose.

Emergency lighting installation is an important element of any health and safety consideration. Emergency lighting systems provide a back-up through a range of operations that ensure lighting is still available in the event of a power failure or blackout. This ensures people are able to evacuate the building safely and enable emergency services are able to complete their tasks.

UK legislation currently requires new and existing buildings meet the Workplace Directive (89/654). Under legislation BS5266 public swimming pools are required to provide emergency lighting that provides a minimum of five lux across all areas.

Working with Alert Fire & Security we were able to design, source, install and provide on-going maintenance in line with their fire system installation and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Considerations for Emergency Lighting Installation

Environmentally Friendly Solution.
With a completely new emergency lighting installation required, it was a great opportunity to work with Craven District Council to identify environmentally friendly solutions and consider recent changes that had been made to the building to ensure all public access areas had adequate emergency lighting provision.

Taking Brexit and Covid supply chain issues into account, we sourced LED, low energy lighting as per required specification, fire rate cabling and fixings, test key switches and necessary containment equipment that was cost effective and available for immediate installation.
